The Historic Meeting
The Rotary Club of Jamshedpur East was initiated by Dr.NA Piroshaw of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur. The Rotary Club of Jamshedpur was established in 1936 and it is the oldest club of undivided Bihar. While this club has always been running most efficiently and has created a place for itself in the social life of Jamshedpur, no attempts were made till 1977 to establish another club in the Steel City. It was during the Governorship of Rtn. V N Chadha (1977- 78), that the formation of a second club in Jamshedpur was given a serious thought.
Dr. N A Piroshaw, a dentist by profession, was instrumental in gathering few enterprising leaders of the community in the eastern side of this city to form the new club. All these persons had a desire to contribute their might for the upliftment of the society around them and the lead was taken by Mr. Biman Ghose, the then General Manager, Telco and also a member of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur. It was on a Wednesday 15th February 1978 the first meeting took place at the residence of Mr. Biman Ghose at G-4 Golmuri Road. This meeting proved to be of historical significance for our club as on that very day, the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur East came into existence. This meeting was attended among others by some outstanding personalities like Late Mr.SB Mukhopadhyay (Telco senior official), Late Lt. Col. B N Sharma, Mr. H S Verma, Mr. N K Nijhawan (Secretary, Golmuri Club and M/S Tinplate official), N. Roychoudhari (Chartered Accountant and M/S Tube official), and Mr. R C Banka (Telco senior official). The Dist. Governor VN Chadha from Ranchi also was represented through his special representative Rtn. Dr. N A Piroshaw. It was decided to name the new club as "Rotary Club of Jamshedpur East" and the Presidentship was offered to Mr. Biman Ghose. Lt. Col. B N Sharma (Rtd) of Telco took over as the Secretary.
Granting of Charter and Charter Presentation
Based on the sponsorship of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur, our club was granted official charter on 26th May, 1978 and the charter was presented personally by District Governor V N Chadha on 26th June 1978 at Golmuri Club. This meeting was attended by all the charter members of our club (25 nos.), who will always be remembered as our founding members. The Golmuri Club became the permanent meeting place with our office adjacent to Golmuri Club Main Hall. Later on our club built a permanent office within the Golmuri Club premises, which is known as Rotary Corner.
